Privacy notice

Last updated: 23 September 2026

This notice explains what personal information Planet Numbers collects when you use our website and calling services, why we need it, who we share it with and the rights you have over it. We keep it short and in plain English. If anything is unclear, email support@planetnumbers.co.uk.

Who we are

Planet Numbers is a trading name of Planet Telecom Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 03823269. Registered office: 23 Hinton Road, Bournemouth, BH1 2EF. Planet Telecom Ltd is the controller of your personal information under UK data protection law.

Our promises:

  • we only collect what we need to run your account and connect your calls
  • we store it securely
  • we never sell your information or share it for other companies’ marketing

What we collect

  • Account details: your name, email address, the phone numbers you register to call from, and your password (stored encrypted).
  • Call records: the number you called from, the number you dialled, the date, time, length and cost of each call. We need these to connect and bill your calls, and they appear in your call history.
  • Payment details: top-ups are processed by PayPal. We receive the amount, date and PayPal transaction reference and the email address linked to the payment. We never see or store your card or bank details.
  • Messages to us: what you tell us when you email or call our support team.
  • Website data: our web server keeps standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser type and pages requested) to keep the site secure and working.

If you use an instant access or free calls number without an account, we receive the call details (calling number, number dialled, time and length) from the phone network but no other information about you.

Why we use it, and our legal basis

  • To provide the service you signed up for (contract): setting up your account, recognising your registered numbers, connecting and charging your calls, showing your balance and call history, and answering your questions.
  • To meet our legal obligations (legal obligation): keeping financial records for HMRC, and responding to lawful requests from the police or other authorities.
  • To protect you and us (legitimate interests): preventing and investigating fraud or misuse, keeping our systems secure and fixing faults.
  • To tell you about offers (consent): we will only email you about offers if you have agreed to it, and you can unsubscribe at any time. Service messages, such as a low balance warning or a change to our terms, are not marketing.

Who we share it with

We only share your information where we need to in order to run the service, or where the law requires it:

  • the telecoms network and billing platform partners who carry and rate your calls
  • PayPal, to process your top-ups
  • the companies that host and maintain our website and systems
  • the police, courts or regulators, when we are legally required to

Each of these acts under contract and may only use your information for the purpose we give them.

Where it is stored

Your information is stored in the UK and the European Economic Area. If a supplier ever needs to process it elsewhere, we make sure appropriate safeguards required by UK law are in place.

How long we keep it

  • Account and payment records: for 6 years after your account closes, as required by UK tax law.
  • Call records: 6 months, or longer where needed to resolve a dispute.
  • Support emails: for as long as needed to deal with your query, and then 12 months.
  • Marketing preferences: until you unsubscribe.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • give you a copy of the information we hold about you
  • correct anything that is wrong
  • delete your information, where we are not legally required to keep it
  • restrict or stop using it in certain circumstances
  • give you your information in a format you can take elsewhere
  • stop sending you marketing, at any time
